§ I — THE MARKETPLACE

A marketplace, not a brand.

WONENA is a curator, not a manufacturer. Every piece in the catalog comes from an independent maker or design studio that WONENA has selected based on a single criterion: the material story has to be real. Soruka rescues leather offcuts that would otherwise be landfilled and stitches them into one-of-a-kind crossbody bags. Yabisi hand-makes cork crossbody bags in Costa Rica from sustainably-harvested cork. EcoFreax produces plant-based eco-cleaning tools from coconut fibers, raffia, and hemp. Sundream upcycles fibers into hand-loomed Mexican throws. POPLINEN cuts organic cotton jumpsuits in GOTS-certified mills.

The catalog isn't curated by aesthetic — it's curated by material integrity. The aesthetic emerges from the materials: warm earth tones, hand-finished texture, the irregularity that comes from real human production.

What this means for buyers: every WONENA piece carries a documented sustainability story you can actually verify. No greenwashing copy, no opaque supply chains. Each product page links to the maker's production process when published.

§ II — THE COLLECTIONS

Five sub-collections.

§ IV — THE PROMISE

Four certainties.

Material First

Each piece selected for the integrity of its material — upcycled leather, sustainably-harvested cork, recycled fibers, GOTS-certified organic cotton.

Maker-Direct

WONENA works directly with independent makers and small design studios. No mass-market brands, no opaque supply chains.

Documented

Every product page links to the maker's production process where published. Sustainability claims are verifiable, not just marketed.

Curated

The catalog isn't comprehensive — it's curated. Each addition meets the material-integrity bar before it enters the marketplace.

§ III — FROM THE MARKETPLACE

Six pieces, hand-picked.

§ V — QUESTIONS

Quick answers.

Is WONENA a brand or a marketplace?

WONENA is a curated multi-brand marketplace. Each piece in the catalog comes from an independent maker or design studio (Soruka, Yabisi, EcoFreax, Sundream, POPLINEN, FABINA, Stanley/Stella, Ocean Bottle, Pink Haley, MENEK, others). WONENA selects each maker based on material integrity rather than aesthetic alone.

What does 'upcycled leather' actually mean?

Soruka — the leather brand in the WONENA catalog — works with leather offcuts from larger leather goods producers. The offcuts would otherwise be landfilled; Soruka stitches them into crossbody bags, phone bags, and reversible handbags. Each piece is one-of-a-kind because the offcut pieces never repeat in identical patterns.

How is cork sustainable?

Cork is harvested from cork oak trees by stripping bark — the tree isn't cut down, and the bark regrows over 9-12 years. A single cork oak can be harvested 15-20 times in its lifetime. Yabisi sources cork from sustainably-managed groves in Costa Rica.

What does 'GOTS-certified' mean for organic cotton?

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is the leading textile certification for organic fibers. To carry GOTS certification, a fabric must contain at least 70% certified organic fibers AND meet specific environmental + social criteria across the entire supply chain (no toxic dyes, fair-labor compliance, restricted chemical use). POPLINEN and the organic cotton tees in the WONENA catalog use GOTS-certified materials.

Are the prices comparable to non-sustainable equivalents?

Roughly: WONENA pieces are 15-40% more expensive than non-sustainable equivalents at retail. The premium reflects the documented material sourcing + smaller production scale. For specific comparisons, the price-per-year-of-use is often comparable because the pieces last longer (durable upcycled leather, premium cork, hand-loomed blankets).

Can I return a piece if I don't like it?

Standard 14-day return policy from delivery for unused condition. One-of-a-kind pieces (specifically Soruka upcycled leather where each piece has unique pattern variation) ship with a verification photo so you can confirm the piece matches the listing before opening.

Do the makers ship internationally?

WONENA pieces ship from various locations depending on the maker — Soruka and Yabisi ship from Spain and Costa Rica respectively (with U.S. fulfillment for U.S. orders), EcoFreax + POPLINEN ship from Western Europe, Sundream from Mexico. Curated Sense consolidates U.S. fulfillment for most pieces; international shipping varies by maker.
