Editorial Standards
How Curated Sense researches, writes, and updates the content on this site — and why you can trust what you read here.
Who writes for Curated Sense
Every article on Curated Sense is written or directly edited by a named author. The founder and editorial director, Ahmad Qazi, is the primary writer for the brand journals. No article on this site is published anonymously or under a generic "staff" byline.
When an article makes a technical or medical-adjacent claim (for example, statements about skin chemistry, vehicle diagnostics, or apparel construction), the author is the person who handled the product, read the primary-source reference, and is willing to be emailed about the claim. That's the standard.
How we research
Research on this site follows a consistent set of rules, in order:
- Primary sources first. Where peer-reviewed or official documentation exists (PubMed, NIH, manufacturer spec sheets, government agency data), we cite it. Secondary write-ups are not a substitute for the primary paper.
- Hands-on evaluation. Before we recommend a product, someone on the team has handled the physical product, read the ingredient panel or spec sheet, and — where relevant — used it for a meaningful length of time.
- No invented expertise. We do not fabricate professional credentials, stage reviewed-by endorsements from experts we don't actually work with, or quote people who didn't say what we attribute to them.
- Context over marketing copy. Brand claims are treated as a starting point. If a brand says "non-comedogenic," we explain what that actually means, cite the scale it's tested against, and flag the conditions under which the claim is weaker.
How we vet brands before listing them
Curated Sense only lists independently-owned brands after a brand-level review. The review looks at:
- Ingredient or material transparency. Full panels disclosed, sourcing explained.
- Manufacturing provenance. Where the product is actually made, by whom, at what scale. Small-batch and family-operated brands are preferred.
- Independent customer evidence. Reviews on third-party platforms (not only on-site reviews), long-time-customer evidence, and — where we can — direct conversations with other buyers.
- Active operations. The brand is actually fulfilling orders. (Where a brand's own website has gone dark — as with BOTORI Equestrian — we say so on the brand page and explain how the lineup is still available via Shopify Collective.)
How we handle updates and corrections
Every article carries a visible Last updated date in the byline, and a matching dateModified field in the structured data Google uses. We update an article when:
- A primary source we cited is revised, retracted, or superseded.
- A product referenced in the article has a material formulation change, is discontinued, or is repackaged.
- A reader flags a factual error that we can verify.
When we correct a substantive error (not a typo), we note the correction at the bottom of the article with the date it was made. We do not silently rewrite published articles to change their meaning.
Advertising, sponsorship, and affiliate disclosure
Curated Sense is an operator-owned retailer, not a media site. We sell the products we write about. That is the business model, and we want to be plain about it:
- Every brand page and every journal article sits on a commerce site. If you buy a product after reading a Curated Sense article, we make a margin on the sale.
- We do not accept paid placements on journal articles. A brand cannot buy a better ranking inside an article by paying us. The order in which products appear inside a buyer's guide is determined by the editorial judgment of the writer, not by wholesale margin.
- We do not run third-party display ads on journal content.
Contact and corrections
If you spot a factual error, have a primary source we missed, or want to push back on a recommendation, email ahmad@curatedsense.com. Emails about factual errors are read and, where the correction is verified, acted on within a week.
Standards summary: named author on every article, primary sources cited, last-updated dates visible, corrections noted publicly, no paid placements inside articles, no fabricated expert endorsements.
